What is a Saju reading?
Saju (사주, "four pillars") is the Korean tradition of reading a life's pattern from the moment of birth. It grew out of the East Asian calendar system and has been practiced in Korea for centuries, where many people still consult it before marriages, career moves and big decisions.
The Four Pillars
Your birth year, month, day and hour each become a "pillar". Every pillar is a pair of characters: a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. Together the four pillars make eight characters (팔자, palja) — the chart a Saju reading is built on.
- Year pillar — roots, family and how others first see you.
- Month pillar — upbringing, work and social environment.
- Day pillar — your core self and close relationships.
- Hour pillar — inner wishes, later life and legacy.
The Five Elements
Each character carries one of five elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water — in either a yin or yang form. A reading looks at which elements are strong, which are missing, and how they feed or clash with each other. That balance is used to describe temperament, attraction and timing.
Do I need my birth time?
The hour pillar makes a reading sharper, but it is optional. Without it, three pillars (six characters) still give a clear picture of your pattern.
Solar or lunar date?
Traditional charts use the East Asian calendar. You only need your regular (solar) birthday — the conversion is done for you.
How Yin reads your chart
Yin calculates your Four Pillars from your birth details and turns them into a modern, readable reading about love, identity and timing. It is for entertainment and self-reflection, not professional advice.
